If you would like your child to practise their English with the help of top instructors, make new friends from all over the world, and enjoy Canada’s capital during the summer, then Destination Canada might be the perfect choice for your child. Located in the heart of Ottawa, Destination Canada is your child’s window into Canada’s beautiful capital city. During their stay in Ottawa, your child will get to try fun activities like go karting, laser tag, mini-golf, and much more.

On top of those fun activities, they’ll also get to visit many of Ottawa’s top sites. Here’s a look at which ones your child will get to see while they learn English in Canada:

1. The Parliament of Canada: a Top Destination for Kids Who Study English in Canada

As Canada’s capital, Ottawa is the home of Canada’s Parliament buildings – meaning that your child will have the chance to see this top Canadian site while they attend summer camp. Each year, close to three million people visit Canada’s Parliament buildings, and with good reason. The historic buildings, perched on top of the scenic Parliament Hill are a favourite attraction for many.

During the summer, the Parliament Buildings even light up with activity. It’s the site of concerts, fireworks, and celebrations on July 1st during Canada Day. And, during the rest of the summer, it also hosts weekly light shows – making it a must-see for kids at international English summer school in Ottawa.

2. The Rideau Canal: a 19th Century Engineering Model That Endures to this Day

As your child learns English on the beautiful Carleton University campus, they’ll be located close to one of Canada’s most renowned engineering marvels: the Rideau Canal. This beautiful canal was built during the 1800s by Lieutenant Colonel John By as a strategic supply route between Montreal and Kingston in case of an invasion by the United States after the War of 1812.

Instead, the Rideau Canal has become a popular yearlong attraction in Ottawa. During the winter months, the canal freezes over into the biggest skating rink in the world. And, during the summer, the canal is an ideal place for a scenic bike ride.

3. Byward Market: a Popular Shopping Spot for Kids at International English Summer School

If your child enjoys shopping, they might enjoy visiting Ottawa’s famous Byward Market. Byward market is almost as old as the city of Ottawa itself. In fact, it was created by Lieutenant Colonel John By – the same man who oversaw the construction of the Rideau Canal.

Many of Ottawa’s oldest buildings are located in this historic square. But, for many kids who study English in Canada, the main attraction of Byward Market is its many shops.

BONUS SITE: Calypso Waterpark is a Perfect Place to Cool Down After English Summer Classes

Ottawa is technically one of the coldest capital cities in the world, but you wouldn’t know it if you spent a summer in the city. As your child studies English in Ottawa, they’ll experience Canada’s warm and pleasant summer weather. They’ll also get to keep cool at Canada’s largest waterpark, located just a short drive away from Ottawa, complete with the biggest wave pool in Canada, water slides for all ages, a lazy river, and more.

Here’s a look at which rides your child might want to try at Calypso this summer:
